Kalray Is Pioneering DPU Development

A leading provider of hardware and software solutions for data-centric applications and next-generation data centers, the Kalray team is at the forefront of data processing unit (DPU) development. A DPU-based system can provide very good performance while minimizing the full system’s budget. However, DPUs are complex and must be optimized in terms of area, power, and timing to be competitive. To achieve outstanding results in a short frame of time, Kalray is using Cadence tools.

A DPU is essentially a large SoC. It contains hundreds of processors and embeds hardware accelerators and high-speed interfaces to connect to the network and/or to a host processor. With the help of Cadence tools, Kalray achieved outstanding results, very quickly on their cluster of processors. For the voltage analysis, they’ve used physical implementation tools, namely Cadence’s Innovus Implementation System and Voltus IC Power Integrity System.

With the help of the Cadence Cerebrus Intelligent Chip Explorer, Kalray has been able to keep the power consumption under control and choose the range when the chip is working at full capacity.
