Pointcloud – Helping Machines View the World in 3D

For humans, understanding the world in three dimensions comes naturally. We can instantly tell how far away an object is or the speed at which it’s moving, but for machines, that same understanding is much harder. For this, Pointcloud is working on silicon-based high-performance three-dimensional (3D) imaging sensors.

Pointcloud envisions a world where 3D imaging will be as ubiquitous and seamless as 2D imaging is today. The company designs silicon-based, high-performance, chip-scale integrated 3D imaging sensors. Envisioned as counterparts of the CMOS image sensor for the 3D world, Pointcloud’s chips deliver rich 3D pointclouds that enable humans and machines to understand and interact with their environment, in a variety of fields from consumer to space applications to enable Physical AI. Pointcloud’s technology can be used in areas like autonomous mobility, robotics, and augmented reality—fields where knowing the exact location of something can be the difference between success and failure.

Chips containing over 0.6 million photonic components and co-integrated electronics are designed with help from Cadence as a manufacturing and design partner. Virtuoso Studio and Spectre Simulation Platform are key to the photonics layout process, while the Pegasus Verification System ensures the accuracy and manufacturability of these complex designs.
