proteanTecs Is Helping Electronics Monitor their Health

21 Dec 2023 • 1 minute read

The Designed with Cadence logoFor technologies like autonomous vehicles, data centers, and mobile communications, semiconductors are their hearts. Much like human hearts, it’s important to monitor the health and performance of a semiconductor throughout its life cycle. As a solution for that, proteanTecs has come up with a unique solution with the help of Cadence tools.

Since 2017, proteanTecs has been helping companies create higher-quality chips and electronic systems in record time. The proteanTecs team has been helping them address the challenges arising in the latest technology nodes, such as higher variabilities within and across chips, latent defects, application stress, and complexities arising from heterogeneous packaging.

From their pre-silicon design, through product bring-up and mass production, all the way to field operation of the final product, customers can reduce their defect rates, improve yield, and reduce power. While in the field, they can monitor the system's health to prevent failures and transition to predictive maintenance. proteanTecs are able to do this because they’ve developed a unique solution that combines their monitoring IP embedded into the chip, a machine learning (ML) engine that processes the generated data, and advanced analytics that are run in the cloud or at the edge.

In the case of the automotive industry, with its focus on advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), infotainment, and electrification, reliability and safety are paramount. proteanTecs enables health and performance monitoring directly on the electronic control unit. As the system functions, the impact of software, environmental conditions, and the aging of electronics will be tracked. Telemetry data is fused with ML algorithms to provide prediction, insights, and critical recommendations so vehicles can be directed to maintenance centers well before any problem arises.

To design their monitors, proteanTecs uses Cadence’s Virtuoso environment and digital flow—including Genus RTL Synthesis, Innovus Implementation, and Tempus Signoff Solution. Shared engines, like GigaPlace for placement and GigaOpt for logic optimization, ensure designs efficiently converge from RTL to GDS, enabling customers to integrate proteanTecs IP in record time.
