IQM seeks to solve one of the greatest technological challenges globally: building useful quantum computers. A spinoff of Aalto University and VTT Technical Research of Finland, IQM’s been a key player in Europe’s quantum ecosystem, having built several quantum labs and research centers globally during the past two decades.
Alongside building quantum computers, IQM also manufactures its own processors in its foundry. For quantum processor development, IQM teams use their own tools, but for system modeling, microwave, and RF design, they use Cadence software.
Jaakko Jussila leads the Scalable Electronics team at IQM. Their team designs the microwave control of quantum chips, and Jaakko makes sure that their engineers have the right information to concentrate on the development of the control devices. The RF engineers need to work efficiently to make the best design choices, and that’s done through collaboration with different experts as well as the right tools. Namely, Cadence AWR software products.
AWR software helps reduce risk in the early prototyping process, model RF blocks, and create the overall system design. Its synthesis capabilities also help IQM's team design RF-matching circuits and components, such as filters. Jaakko said, “IQM needs skilled professionals, just the right tools, and great partners, and with Cadence, all of this is easier for us.”
