Kudan is a computer vision software company focusing primarily on simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM). The Kudan team is working to provide spatial awareness to machines and a software solution for mapping and robotics applications. You know how a Roomba learns how to navigate its way around a house? It’s through the help of SLAM. With the help of Cadence, Kudan is using SLAM and AI to revolutionize tomorrow’s smart vision systems.
As humans, when we walk around, we are consciously and subconsciously analyzing where we are in regard to walls and doors. Kudan’s technology gives robots that same ability, allowing them to know where they are and how they are moving and interacting in their environments. Where Kudan’s SLAM solution shines is in its ease of integration, robustness, and reliability.
With the Cadence Tensilica Vision Q7 DSP, the effort in the CPU is basically cut in half, allowing it to be used for other things. Thanks to the Vision DSP, Kudan has been getting 10X gains in processing times, which translates to a 15 to 20% improvement in timing for the SLAM pipeline in general. This has been part of Kudan’s multi-stage partnership with Cadence, and for their next stage, they want to take this software simulation and work directly with hardware partners to provide a solution to the market.
Juan Wee, the CEO of Kudan USA, mentioned “They've [Cadence] been a great partner so far, and so using the Tensilica Vision Q7 platform, Cadence provided pretty much all the software tools and support that we needed to get an implementation done in simulation.”
