Spirent Is Bringing Chipset Testing to Pre-Silicon Verification with Cadence

9 Nov 2023 • 1 minute read

Spirent is a global provider of automated testing and assurance solutions for networks, security, and positioning. This means that the technology that we rely on every day, from our smartphones to streaming services, is being tested by Spirent. To do so, they’re taking the help of Cadence’s dynamic duo, the Palladium Emulation Platform and the Protium Prototyping Platform.

System-on-chip (SoC) and ASIC designs are becoming more and more complex, and customers are demanding better capabilities from their devices. Solving this need for greater levels of integration in shorter periods of time requires greater accuracy in design than ever, so issues found in SoCs after they’ve been fabricated can result in an extremely high cost of respins, software repatching, and increased quality assurance.

Identifying and solving defects early in the development cycle is necessary, and the ability to simulate complex designs at scale and provide quality assurance through rigorous testing is a must. Through their partnership, Spirent and Cadence have created an integrated solution to address complex ethernet chips at design and test challenges. The seamless integration of the Spirent TestCenter virtual traffic generator into the Cadence virtual ethernet tester software for the Palladium and Protium platforms brings ethernet traffic generation, testing, and troubleshooting capabilities to pre-silicon verification.

Creating meaningful ethernet test traffic can be difficult and time-consuming, but TestCenter does this quickly, easily, and on a large scale. Bob Emberley, senior manager of the chipset vertical at Spirent, said, “Spirent and Cadence have been partners for many years. We look forward to bringing this integrated solution to our joint customers to help them get their products to market faster.”

“Designed with Cadence” is a series of videos that showcases creative products and technologies that are accelerating industry innovation using Cadence tools and solutions.
