Syroco is a climate tech startup supporting the energy transition of maritime transportation. The team’s current project is inventing a speed craft that’s capable of shattering the world sailing speed record. In the process of achieving this, they’ve faced a number of technical challenges, and to address them, they’re counting on Cadence tools.
The speedcraft being built by Syroco is a complex system composed of three different elements: the kite, which is the engine of the craft; the nacelle, which protects the crew; and the foil, which holds the boat in the water. For each of these, the team must perform advanced aerodynamic and hydrodynamic simulation, and for that, Syroco is using Cadence’s Fidelity Fine Marine software.
For the foil, in particular, they need to solve the problem of cavitation, a phenomenon that occurs when an object travels at high speed on the water above 50 knots. Knowing that, the Syroco team focuses on understanding the behavior of the foil in transit, making sure that the foil is able to go from 0 to 80 knots. Their study couples the CFD result coming from Fidelity Fine Marine with Syroco’s Dynamic Velocity Prediction Program, an in-house simulator. This allows them to understand the behavior of the anti-aircraft in any kind of scenario.
