1st Anniversary Of The Team Specman Blog!

9 Dec 2009 • 3 minute read

Specmaniacs rejoice: today is the 1st anniversary of the launch of this blog!!!  To commemorate the occasion, allow us to highlight the top 5 posts (out of 72 total!) from the past year, AND give a shout out to the Specmaniac websphere with a roll-up of Specman and e language oriented online resources.  Without further adieu, in ascending order of web hits and comments received …

#5 – Tech Tip - Double Wall Clock Performance with One Easy Step
The advice in this short&sweet post – that the simple act of compiling your e test bench can cut the wall clock run time performance in half – came as a surprise to many (including some veteran Specmaniacs).

#4 – Extending Multiple When-Subtypes Simultaneously
Inspired by an AE’s brainstorm from working with a challenging customer environment, this post is less about When-subtypes, and more about how you can easily extend e to effectively create your own reusable language constructs with macros to address specific needs.

#3 – Grey-Boxed Data-Path Approach Using 'when sub-typing'
This article was our first guest post from the user community, and it is a solid, real world case study on applying When-subtyping.
#2 – AOP Discussion on LinkedIn
As all Specmaniacs know, the e language’s support for Aspect Oriented Programming is a big part of Specman’s easy reuse, scalability, and overall time saving power.  However, it’s often a challenge to describe the value of AOP to others.  This post by Team Specman’s own Brett Lammers is all you need to make the case.

[[[ drum roll, please …]]]

#1 – Efrat Schneydor’s series on Performance-Aware e coding Guidelines
OK, this is technically not one post, but it’s one in an excellent 5 part series on how with a few changes in your code, and/or writing clean code from the start, you can dramatically increase the wall clock and memory performance of your testbench.  All e coders should print out these posts and tape them to their cube walls.

Honorable mentions go to:

  • Any article by R&D’s Yuri Tsoglin – his posts are all about time saving “power tools”
  • The dozen posts on many facets of “IntelliGen”
  • 5 min Demo: e Coding With AMIQs DVT IDE -- DVT has been a sleeper hit with e coders on 3 continents, our own AEs, and both the Specman and VIP R&D teams.  This video demo will give you an idea why.
  • New OVM e Sequence API Brings Increase Flexibility -- Introduced as part of the alignment of eRM with OVM, these new API methods to sequence drivers have been a hit with everyone who has tried them -- they truly do enable a lot of flexibility when working with layered protocols.  (And since this original post, this capability has gone into production in 9.2, released last month.)

And now, the promised a roll-up of …

Non-Cadence e language & Specman-friendly sites

  • The granddaddy of all EDA user groups: the Specman Yahoo group
  • The IEEE 1647 Working Group
  • OVM World Forums (for OVM e discussions)
  • Yaron Ilani's "Think Verification" blog

  • CFS Vision – a FOSS e Language Project (highlighted in this recent post)
  • e verification by Shivayogi
  • Sandeep Gor's Verification Blog
  • JL Gray's "Cool Verification" blog (Ed. note: lately J.L. has been doing more tweeting than blogging, so if you are looking for the latest news from him you should start following him there http://twitter.com/jlgray

Finally:

Do you have an e language-related product, web site, blog, utility, plug-in, shareware, or really cool verification challenge you would like to share or promote?  If so, please contact us and we will work with you to introduce and discuss it via this blog -- and on Twitter too (follow us: @teamspecman ).

Thank you for subscribing to our blog, and sharing your insights via your comments and other contributed posts.  We look forward to serving you in the coming years!

Happy Verifying!
