A New Toy for UVM Geeks

11 Jun 2010 • 1 minute read

Wasn't it great when you were a kid at Christmas, and you got all those new toys to play with? You could keep yourself entertained for weeks, and with a really good toy, maybe the whole year. As we get older, our taste in toys changes, but the effect is still the same. My latest toy is my motorcycle; I never thought I could have so much fun with just one thing. But when my day job is done, its all I think about.

The same holds true for things we do in our careers. When you get a new tool or new to do something, it's thrilling, it's exciting, you can't wait to use it; it just makes the day go so much better. Now I suppose if I were a verification engineer and really into my trade, I would have similar excitement if I got a new tool that would make my life easier.

Well, Cadence announced today a new toy for you, a first of its kind, actually. The UVM Reference Flow helps verification engineers do their job faster, better, and have fun in the process. If you were ever into eRM, dabbled in OVM, or had a lifelong desire to see Cadence, Mentor and Synopsys finally converge on a common verification methodology, you need to check this out. Go to www.uvmworld.org and download the open-source UVM Reference Flow. There is a brochure there that describes the details, but suffice to say, it's a complete reference design with verification components so you can exercise your UVM skills on a real design. Awesome.

Enjoy your new toy! Tell us how you like it!
