5G Network Revolution for Enhanced User Experience and Industry Digitalization

10 Dec 2021 • 1 minute read

The emerging 5G network is the 5th generation of the cellular network. A 5G network allows handling a thousand times more traffic than today's networks. Not only is it faster than the 4G network, but it also has lower latency, faster connectivity, and greater bandwidth. 5G network revolutionizes autonomous driving, the internet of things (IoT), virtual reality (VR), and user experience in the entertainment industry through faster download speed and responses. It brings streaming high-resolution videos, high accuracy location tracking, low latency communication and enhances the quality of real-time analytics and cloud gaming.

5G network is optimized for handling network traffic in dense areas like shopping malls and stadiums. Fundamental technologies that make the 5G network faster, smoother, and more reliable are millimeter waves, small cells, beamforming, full-duplex, and massive MIMO technology. These technologies brought a new spectrum of wavelength meaning more bandwidth and fewer connection drops. It solves the problem of signal loss caused by obstacles via small cell networks specifically in urban areas. Massive MIMO and beamforming technology bring the capacity to handle more users and reduce cross signal interference.

Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) enables timings and synchronization to be transported across a packet network. SyncE enables the synchronization or clock in a network to be transported from a core-site. All the equipment in the network is locked together and synchronized to a single source through SyncE.

The Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) is an interface that transmits data from remote radio units to base station units. eCPRI is a way of splitting up the baseband functions to reduce traffic strain on the fiber and to provide flexible radio data transmission through a packet-based fronthaul network, so it enables increased efficiency. eCPRI reduces the bandwidth requirement so it can accurate more traffic. Packets are framed with ethernet, leveraging the advantages of ethernet networks. It provides increased reliability and flexibility to the much-needed 5G network.

With the availability of the Cadence Verification IP for Ethernet 5G Network, adopters can start working with these specifications immediately, ensuring compliance with the standard and achieving the fastest path to IP and SoC verification closure. The SyncE and Enhanced Common Public Radio Interface (eCPRI) provide a full-stack solution with a comprehensive coverage model and protocol checkers. Ethernet 5G Network covers all features required for full coverage verification closure. More details are available in the Ethernet Verification IP portfolio.
