New "E" text editor and e templates

27 May 2009 • 1 minute read

Imagine Team Specman's surprise when we came across this article on Slashdot about "the new E text editor":
http://tech.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/03/24/172202

This was the first we've heard of this product, and we're curious to find out how the author came up with the name "E".  Anyone, anyone ....?

Regardless, since Cadence in general, and Specman and Incisive Enterprise Simulator-XL in specific, do not support the Windoze platform, we shall leave it as an excercise to the reader to modify this open source tool to support an official IEEE 1647 compliant editing template functionality for offline editing.  This open source product's homepage claims "close integration with cygwin gives you access to the full range of UNIX shell tools and lets you extend E with your choice of languages like Ruby, Perl, Python and more", so it might be worth it.

In the mean time, please recall the following popular e language tools & templates:

* AMIQ's Eclipse-based "DVT" Integrated Development Environment

* Emacs e template

* VIM e template

Happy coding!

P.S. Corey's recent posting on the new eDoc capability prompted a suggestion to support Doxygen.  It's a great idea, but unfortunately in the short term (between now & DAC) Team Specman will not have a chance to work on this.  However, if a Specmaniac out there wants to and/or has already put something for Doxygen together for IEEE 1647 e, we will be happy to help you post and/or promote your work in a guest blogger spot.
