The Power of Parallel Thinking: Multi-Core Cadence

30 Sep 2009 • 1 minute read

A while back, as we were preparing to launch our first phase of multi-core support in the Cadence Incisive Enterprise Simulator family, we started working on a press release. We decided to include the multi-core support added recently to Incisive Formal Verifier, in which formal engines can run in parallel to deliver assertion results faster. Then Yoon Kim, my neighbor in the next office, mentioned that Conformal Equivalence Checker had also recently added multi-core support, so we decided to expand the release a bit. Then colleagues from several other product lines mentioned that their tools had had support for a long time.

Some marketing groups call their capabilities by other names (parallel, distributed, etc.) but it is clear that Cadence has a broad range of products that can run in parallel on today's ubiquitous multi-core processors. I won't list them all here; you can reference yesterday's press release if you want the details. There seems to be some FUD out there that Cadence is not agressively pursuing multi-core EDA tools. Maybe we haven't talked/blogged enough on this topic in the past, but this press release clearly shows the tremendous scope of support that we have today across many product lines.

Cadence has had, and continues to have, a significant focus on modifying tools and algorithm for multi-core processors and, when appropriate, for distribution across server farms and computing clouds. It was nice to be to roll up our entire story in one press release that demonstrates our innovation. Please check it out, please try the multi-core capabilities in your favorite Cadence products, and please keep suggesting ideas for additional tools you'd like to see running on multiple cores. Our R&D teams are very good at thinking in parallel.

The truth is out there...sometimes it's in a blog
