Compatibility Is Good, But Compliance Is Better—Certifying for VESA DisplayPort

14 Jun 2016 • 1 minute read

For all IP providers, the ultimate proof of quality of their product is certification for standard compliance. Exhaustive testing conducted by third-party labs or at compliance workshops assess the behavior of the component across variety of conditions that can take place in customer’s application. Passing the compliance suite helps both convince existing prospects, as well as promote to get new ones.

Cadence has been an active member of variety of standard bodies for many years, and VESA is no different. At first, we started providing excellent VIP for DisplayPort, HDMI, and MHL, and since 2014, we also provide Display IP.

The Cadence IP for DisplayPort TX Controller has been certified at Allion lab, one of the VESA-approved centers for DP certification. Combined with Cadence DisplayPort PHY IP in 28nm technology, and integrated with our VIP, we provide a complete solution for high-definition image and video transmission that is proven to work in all corner cases and conditions set by the VESA DisplayPort compliance suite.

The same IP for DisplayPort can complement the Cadence Subsystem for USB Type-C and provide support for DisplayPort Alternate Mode—one of the hottest and most promising features of the USB Type-C specification.
