Good times for DDR2 and DDR3 DRAM: Think Memcon 2010

8 Apr 2010 • 1 minute read
Several more bits of good DRAM news today appearing in DigiTimes and elsewhere point to the improving market for DRAMs. First, Scott Chen, vice president of the APAC Business Division of DRAM module maker Kingston Technology says that he sees signs of strong demand for DRAMs throughout this year. One of the reasons for this rosy outlook is the memory demand created by Microsoft Windows 7 purchases and upgrades. The incremental demand is pushing up the prices of both DDR2 and DDR3 DRAM modules. The curtailing of capital investment in new DRAM manufacturing capacity over the past few years is also causing prices to stay firm.

Next, DRAM module vendor A-Data reports that DRAM module sales jumped 70% from February to March. In addition, DigiTimes reports that “DRAM chipmakers Nanya Technology and Inotera Memories both enjoyed revenue growth in March 2010, joining fellow Powerchip Semiconductor Corporation (PSC) that saw revenues increase 24% on month and 572% from a year earlier.”

Finally, Koreatimes.co.kr reports that Korean DRAM maker Hynix is doing well enough to revive its search for a new owner. These sorts of sales discontinuities are sure to get a lot of attention in the DRAM community.

These events are merely a few of the indications that this year is a big one for DRAM. That’s one of the reasons that this year’s MemCon is really focusing on DRAM. If you want to be one of the first to learn about the biggest development s in memory this year, with a particular focus on DRAM, then seriously consider signing up for MemCon now. It’ll be held July 28, 2010 at the Hyatt Santa Clara. MemCon is a very successful annual event covering the most important, most ground-breaking, and most critical need-to-know information relating to semiconductor memory and storage. Registration is free and gives you access to exhibits, keynotes, technical sessions, and panels. Also, if you’re an industry expert and have something to say about memory, consider making a presentation (make a presentation proposal here).
