Celebrating a People-First Culture

I am very proud that Cadence has been recognized as #17 on Fortune’s World’s Best Workplaces list and #7 on Newsweek’s Most Loved Workplaces list. These accolades are truly an honor, but what inspires me the most about them is what they say about our company culture and our dedicated employees.

Our employees are central to Cadence’s business, innovation, and customer success. And one of the most foundational elements of the Cadence culture, which has made the difference for our employees and has led to our business success, is our high-trust environment.

As a leader of a 2,500-person global team, I have always believed that building trust with your teams comes first. While your skills and technical knowledge are important to the role, I’ve told my team that the most critical trait you can have is what I call a “PhD in humanity.” Relationships matter. This means taking good care of people, treating them with respect, being authentic, and working with integrity. What you bring to work can’t always be about business; we are people first. So, building meaningful relationships with co-workers and customers is crucial to what we give to work and what work gives to us.

I can think of no better example of our putting people first than Cadence’s response to the pandemic. Recognizing the serious threat this posed to our employees early on, Cadence was quick to put the needs of our people first. Our employees were experiencing so many personal and professional concerns. We maintained trust during a very uncertain time with open communication and programs that could support their health and wellness, and a strong emphasis on empathy and flexibility.

We saw employees respond to our efforts with renewed commitment and engagement. We have had some of our highest employee survey scores this past year with 94% of employees saying Cadence is a great place to work and 93% saying they are proud to work here. And, as I said earlier, it turns out that high trust fuels business success. The extra effort from employees helped lead us to a year of record revenue and profitability, and ultimately, we were able to share that success with our employees through special rewards and recognition. It’s these statements from employees that earned us spots on the Newsweek and Fortune lists for top workplaces.

I was celebrating these awards with our Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Tina Jones, whose team enables many of these programs and practices. I think she put it best:

“We’ve always been about our One Team culture and we ‘walked the talk’ when it mattered most. We put the needs of our people first, and that paid dividends—our employees blew us away with their commitment, creativity, agility, and relentless drive to ensure our customers and business succeeded.”

Congratulations to the Cadence team for these outstanding recognitions, and thank you for all you do to make Cadence a great place to work!
