Celebrating Our People This Diversity Month

29 Apr 2024 • 7 minute read

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are not just words but values that are exemplified through our One Cadence—One Team culture. In the DEI@Cadence blog series, you’ll find a community where employees share their perspectives and experiences. By providing a glimpse of their personal stories, we celebrate our One Cadence—One Team culture and the importance of sustaining it as we learn from diverse perspectives.

April is Diversity Month, and here at Cadence we are celebrating it by honoring our people. We know our globally diverse and talented team is at the heart of our ability to innovate and build our business. Because of that, we believe that providing space for all employees to be their authentic selves and share lived experiences is an essential part of fostering an equitable workplace. Not only does our One Cadence—One Team philosophy allow us to build community through our employee-led Inclusion Groups, but it also helps to strengthen trust where employees from all backgrounds can feel a sense of belonging and have an opportunity to contribute.

Part of our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is to enable each of our Inclusion Groups to regularly invite thought leaders from our industry to Cadence to speak with us about their journeys in the community. By highlighting expertise, advice for allies, and examples of inclusivity, speakers enhance the human connection with personal storytelling. Inclusion Groups also help us to move the needle in DEI by advocating for inclusive processes and initiatives. Some impactful examples include Voice groups to support and recognize women employees, introducing benefits resources for LGBTQ+ employees, as well as hosting information fairs for employees to learn more about our groups, allyship, and how to get involved.

Building awareness and supporting historically underrepresented communities in technology is another key element in our mission to create a more equitable future. In 2023, 100% of Cadence employees participated in unconscious bias training. Additionally, we partner with national engineering organizations and colleges with diverse enrollment to conduct recruiting. As a result, 6% of all new hires in the U.S. were Black, Latinx, or from another underrepresented group, and 13% of all U.S. early-career employees were Black, Latinx, or from another underrepresented group. Further, representation of women at Cadence grew for the tenth consecutive year as 25% of global new hires were women and 32% of early career employees and interns were women.

For new hires and established employees alike, Cadence is home to some of the brightest minds in our industry who want to do meaningful work with a global impact. Among a number of programs for all employees, we sponsor focused development through inclusive leadership programs for top Black, women, and Latinx talent that provide specialized coaching and workshops. Our IMPACT mentorship program also provides women and U.S. Black and Latinx employees with the opportunity to choose a mentor based on their own career goals.

Finally, cultivating a respectful environment also includes the understanding that what we say matters, which is why we formed the Words Matter Initiative. Led by a cross-functional team, language and terminology in our materials were analyzed to ensure our communications reflect our DEI values. The team also compiled a respectful language list with input from Cadence business units and other DEI authorities to remove inappropriate terms and provide employees with the resources to identify communication biases. At Cadence, we aren’t just developing the tools to help solve technology’s greatest challenges but also working toward an industry future with equity for all.

Honoring Cadence Communities

Throughout the rest of 2024, we are excited to celebrate Cadence communities with special events and commemorative months. Take a look below at the highlights of what we have in store!

May: Honoring Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month with our AAPI Inclusion Group! During May, we will volunteer on campus with a backpack drive, learn from a member of the AAPI community with a Toastmasters speaking engagement, and get together and connect during networking events.

June: Celebrating LGBTQ+ Pride and Juneteenth with our LGBTQ+ and Black Inclusion Groups! We will host our second annual Cadence Pridefest, welcome a guest speaker, and learn about the history of Juneteenth over delicious food and refreshments.

August: Our partners, Out in Tech, will join us at our corporate headquarters in San Jose for a panel event to discuss allyship among the LGBTQ+ community.

September - October: Launching our 2024-2025 Diversity in Technology Scholarship in support of university students from underrepresented communities pursuing STEM degrees. Later, we will celebrate Latinx Heritage Month with our Latinx Inclusion Group by hearing from a guest speaker and learning about cherished traditions during social events.

November: Commemorating members of the military and their families with our Veterans Inclusion Group. Cadence will welcome a guest speaker and have the opportunity to socialize with Veteran employees to learn more about their experiences as members of the armed services.

December: Recognizing International Day of Persons with Disabilities with our Abilities Inclusion group. We will hear from an informative guest speaker and enjoy each other's company during a group event in a safe space for all as we close out the year.
