Today, Earth Day celebrates 50 years of support for environmental protection around the globe, a movement spearheaded by US Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1970. Earth Day is the world’s largest civic event celebrated by 192 countries annually!
Cadence has made a lot of progress towards our goal of building a more sustainable business. We just launched a new Corporate Social Responsibility microsite that highlights our environmental efforts, along with our other sustainable business practices. This past year, Cadence reduced carbon emissions per employee by 12%, increased electric vehicle charging stations at our headquarters by nearly 2.5X, and launched the Tempus Power Integrity and Celsius Thermal Solver technologies to help customers with more efficient power consumption and utilization.
Caring for our communities is something our employees are passionate about and is a special part of our culture. At a local level, many of our sites have started their own green initiatives to reduce their environmental footprint. Last year, our employees from across all regions volunteered to plant trees, build nesting boxes, and clean up local beaches. Here are some highlights of what some of our offices are doing to be more sustainable:
In the past year, Munich employees have established several green initiatives such as installing electric charging stations, providing reusable glass water bottles, and recycling cardboard boxes. Even their electricity is powered by water, wind, and sun! To further reduce waste, Cadence Munich has provided reusable plastic containers that employees can bring to restaurants and get their lunch to go. The containers are cleaned daily in the office so they can be ready to use at any time!
Our Haifa and Petah Tikva sites have set up a number of environmental initiatives including recycling containers for paper, batteries, cartridges, plastic, and aluminum cans, as well as a recycling forum for both sites. Haifa employees have also reduced the use of plastic water bottles and paper cups by 90% by providing reusable mugs and glass bottles!
Since 2016, Cadence Korea has continued to reduce their carbon footprint by doing away with disposable cups. They gifted all employees with personalized reusable mugs with their names on them! All new hires in Korea also receive a personalized mug in their welcome kit.
Cadence Noida is working to implement numerous waste reduction initiatives to reduce energy, water, paper, and plastic consumption. Employees in Noida actively engage in composting and use best practices to ensure all horticulture waste is recycled. They’ve also developed and nurtured an in-house nursery that maintains all their indoor plants. Employees are gifted with potted plants on their birthdays.
Cadence United States
This year, we’re excited to launch Cupanion in the US where every employee will receive a branded, reusable water bottle that can set hydration goals and track water intake. Whether it’s water or coffee, each time a bottle is refilled, Cadence makes a donation that is equal to a “cup of clean water” to water projects around the world!
I’m proud to be working for a company that fosters an environment where our innovation and our employees can make a difference in the communities where we work and live.
As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, let’s also cheers to the next 50 years! We’re making Cadence a more sustainable workplace as One Cadence—One Team. Let’s continue to keep our Earth clean and green.
