CIC India 2026: Engineering Innovation in Action

5 Oct 2026 • 4 minute read

Some days at work are about getting things done. Others give you a chance to step back, learn something new, meet people you don't usually work with, and and share what you've built and accomplished.
CIC India 2026 was one of those days.

Under the theme Engineering Innovation in Action, the Cadence Innovation Conference brought together engineers, technical experts, innovators, and colleagues from across Cadence for a day filled with technical discussions, ideas, demonstrations, conversations, and celebration.

And the experience started a day earlier.

Before the Conference, the Bots Took Over

On September 23, the Noida office cafeteria became an arena for Robo Mania 2026: Bot Wars, the official CIC India Tinkering Event.

Teams put their creativity and engineering skills to work as two bots entered the arena, each trying to push the other across the red line while staying inside the ring. The ultimate goal: hold the center and become King of the Hill.

It was a test of more than just building and programming. Teams had to think about strategy, control, timing, and how to respond when an opponent pushed back. It was about trying something, figuring out why it didn't work, making a change, and trying again.

That spirit continued at the volunteering kiosk, where employees made interactive circuit booklets for middle school students as part of the CIC India Volunteer activity.

Two very different activities, but both rooted in the same idea, engineering becomes meaningful when you get to experiment with it.

The Day Gets Underway

On September 24, the focus shifted from autonomous bots to semiconductor engineering.

The Leela Ambience Convention Hotel filled up as attendees arrived, caught up with colleagues, collected their badges, and made their way into the conference.

The opening keynotes set the direction for the day.

Setting the Stage for What Comes Next

Alok Jain, Corporate VP & India Managing Director, Cadence, kicked off the conference, setting the stage for a day focused on engineering innovation and the ideas shaping the future of semiconductor design.

Boyd Phelps, VP and General Manager, Cadence, spoke about the AI Super Cycle, exploring how the rapid expansion of AI is driving demand across the semiconductor ecosystem and extending into emerging areas such as physical AI.

He also looked at how AI is transforming semiconductor engineering itself through Design for AI and AI for Design, with AI evolving from optimization and assistance toward reasoning and agentic workflows. This shift is opening new possibilities for AI Super Agents to work alongside engineers across increasingly complex design flows.

Kartik Hegde, Sr. Software Engineering Group Director, ChipStack,Cadence looked further ahead at self-evolving agents exploring how AI agents could move beyond hand-engineered skills to learn from verifiable outcomes.

He outlined Cadence’s progression from tool-feedback loops and memory toward learned reflexes and specialized models, pointing to a future where agents can increasingly learn how to work with complex engineering tools and workflows.

Three perspectives. One common thread: engineering is changing, and AI is becoming an increasingly important part of how that work gets done.

Where the Engineering Gets Interesting

The conference then opened up across four parallel rooms.

Speakers shared work spanning AI and agentic workflows, verification, digital implementation, physical design, analog and mixed-signal design, advanced packaging, system integration, and more.

The topics ranged from timing closure and EMIR to UCIe, PCIe, automotive Ethernet, LPDDR6, NPU design, technology migration, and advanced semiconductor workflows.

Some sessions tackled familiar engineering challenges from new angles. Others explored emerging technologies and new approaches to design and verification.

With multiple tracks running at once, there was always another session to explore. And occasionally, a difficult choice about which one to miss.

The Conversations Between the Sessions

Some of the best parts of a conference don't appear on the agenda.

They happen over tea, at lunch, in front of a poster, or in the few minutes between sessions when someone says, "That's interesting. How did you do that?"

The poster sessions gave attendees another way to explore the work, ask questions, and get into the details. Colleagues from different teams compared approaches, exchanged ideas, and continued conversations between sessions.

Then Came the Celebrations

After a full day of technical sessions, the evening brought everyone together for the CIC India Awards Dinner.

The awards recognized the people and teams whose work and contributions helped bring engineering innovation to life across Cadence.

There were proud moments, plenty of applause, and more than a few smiles as colleagues and teams took the stage.

Then the evening took a different turn.

Dinner gave way to music, conversations gave way to dancing, and the DJ took over.

After a day spent talking about engineering, it was good to simply enjoy being together.

Engineering Innovation in Action

Looking back, what made CIC India 2026 memorable wasn't any one session or presentation.

It was everything that happened around them.

The curiosity of the teams building autonomous bots.
The engineers sharing work they had spent months developing.
The questions that continued after the presentations.
The conversations around the posters.
The volunteers creating something that would reach students.
The applause in the awards room.
And, finally, everyone on the dance floor.

Engineering Innovation in Action turned out to be more than a conference theme. It showed up in the way people experimented, shared, questioned, learned, collaborated, and celebrated.

And somewhere between the first bot battle and the last song of the evening, CIC India 2026 became what a great engineering gathering should be: a place to learn something, meet someone, take away an idea, and leave with a little more energy for what comes next.

Until the next CIC, keep asking questions, keep innovating, and keep engineering what's next.
