Interns Share What Makes Cadence Special

27 Aug 2021 • 3 minute read

During their time at Cadence, interns work alongside our team of passionate and brilliant employees. Through their summer projects, interns can experience how Cadence is shaping the world of technology including trends like 5G, AI, machine learning, and autonomous driving.

To wrap up this summer’s internship program, Cadence hosted a virtual intern showcase event. Interns across different business units, sites, and teams created video presentations showcasing their work to the company. In total, 93 intern presentations were viewed nearly 3,000 times and received over 800 likes, comments, and shares.

At the end of the week, three interns who received the most views and engagements were selected to share their presentations live during a virtual intern showcase mixer with our executive management team and the entire global intern group.

We interviewed some of our interns that participated in the showcase. Hear what they had to say about their internship experience at Cadence:

Anushka Goel, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University

What have you enjoyed most about interning at Cadence?

The thing I enjoyed the most about Cadence is their “You’re more important than you think” approach towards everyone, including interns. Even though I’m early in my career, my work is certainly appreciated by my manager and mentor, which keeps me motivated to perform well and give my best.

What was one thing you learned on the job during your internship that was not taught in the classroom?

I feel that something I had learned during my internship that I didn’t get in school is how to effectively and professionally communicate my ideas and objections to my team and to the related teams working on the same platform. I also enjoyed the chance to apply the theoretical learnings from the classroom onto my work in an actual industry environment.

Breno Rocha, CEFET-MG, Centro Federal de Educação Tecnológica de Minas Gerais

What has been your most valuable learning experience during your internship?

As an application engineering intern, I have received trainings in effective communication. They have improved my skills and made quite an impact, not only in a professional setting, but also in my academic and personal life.

What advice would you give to someone considering interning at Cadence?

Definitely apply, it is a wonderful opportunity! Cadence is a great place to learn and you get to work at an amazing place with brilliant people. I also love that the company values giving back to the communities where employees live. Join our “One Cadence—One Team” culture!

Francie Huebner, Connecticut College

Would you recommend this internship to others?

Yes! It’s been such a great experience and I’ve learned so much. The community is so supportive and I’m excited to have the flexibility to continue working during the school year!

What have you enjoyed most about interning at Cadence?

I loved working with my team! Everyone was so eager to help and always kept an open line of communication for me whenever I needed them. I loved our team meetings where I got to learn more about everyone’s lives and celebrate all the work we’ve accomplished together.

Jake Barr, Heriot-Watt University

What has been your most valuable learning experience during your internship?

Working on the user interface design for my project has allowed me to develop new skills. My involvement in the design stage has given me a new understanding of what aspects of a user interface are the most important for users—not just what is considered good design in textbooks. Overall, I would say the most valuable learning experience is getting to know what pieces of academic knowledge are the most important in the “real world” as that’s something you can only really understand once you’ve been in that environment.

Would you recommend this internship to others?

Wholeheartedly. This internship has been an amazing opportunity. The project I was assigned was challenging but very rewarding. It gave me the chance to experience the industry like I hadn’t before while I developed the skills I had learned throughout university.
