What It’s Really Like to Be an Intern at Cadence

At Cadence, internship opportunities give students the chance to do more than observe. Interns contribute to real projects, present their work to leaders and peers, build connections across teams, and gain hands-on experience that can help shape what comes next in their careers. 

Whether showcasing technical work, learning from employees who recently made the transition from university to industry, or connecting with peers across Cadence locations around the world, interns are given opportunities to grow as engineers, communicators, collaborators, and future professionals. 

That experience is supported by Career Catalyst, Cadence’s global internship and early career development program. Built around culture, connection, and career development, the program helps interns and early career talent build meaningful relationships, expand their skills, and feel connected to Cadence from the start.

Internships are also a chance to build confidence, not just in technical skills, but in communication, relationship-building, and career direction. 

Throughout the summer, more than 500 interns participated in opportunities designed to help them navigate the transition from student to professional. In India, discussions focused on professional relationships, personal branding, and career growth, while senior leaders shared advice on continuous learning and long-term success. In Korea, interns joined a Career Catalyst-hosted professional photo session that helped them strengthen their personal brand while connecting with peers. Taiwan interns attended an Inspiring Career Talk where employees shared stories about the challenges, opportunities, and lessons that shaped their careers, followed by a printmaking workshop that encouraged creativity and connection across locations.  

Although each opportunity looked different, they shared a common goal: helping interns develop the confidence to grow, contribute, and take the next step in their careers. 

Finding Community as a Cadence Intern 

For many students, the best internship experiences are not only about the work. They are also about the people they meet, the confidence they build, and the sense of belonging they develop along the way. 

In San Jose, the summer began with an orientation day that helped interns get familiar with Cadence, meet one another, and start building connections from the beginning. 

Across China, Ireland, India, and North America, interns connected through regional programming, local events, and peer conversations that helped them share project accomplishments, exchange advice, and build relationships beyond their immediate teams. 

Together, these moments fostered a sense of community that crossed organizational and geographic boundaries, reminding interns they were part of something bigger than a single project or office.

Real Internship Projects, Real Impact 

One of the most exciting parts of a Cadence internship is the chance to see how your work connects to real technology challenges and industry innovation. 

Throughout the summer, interns participate in product-focused learning experiences, technical communication workshops, and professional development sessions designed to deepen their understanding of Cadence, our technologies, and the semiconductor industry. On National Intern Day in the U.S., more than 70 interns presented their projects at the San Jose Intern Showcase, where they shared accomplishments, practiced technical storytelling, and celebrated the impact of their work with leaders, managers, and peers.

Some interns also attended the Global Technology Industry Future Is Semi Intern Summit, where they connected with peers from across the industry and explored innovations shaping the future of technology. These experiences help interns understand not only what they are building, but why it matters and how their contributions fit into the broader technology ecosystem.

Building Professional Skills for What Comes Next 

Beyond project work, interns also practiced professional skills they can carry into the next stage of their careers, from communicating technical ideas clearly to building confidence in meetings, presentations, and everyday collaboration. Through mentorship, workshops, showcase opportunities, and informal conversations with employees, interns had space to ask questions, learn from different career paths, and better understand how to grow in a professional environment. 

Those experiences helped interns connect their summer projects to a larger career journey. Whether they were strengthening presentation skills, expanding their networks, or learning how to navigate a global company, the program gave them practical tools to leave the summer more prepared, connected, and confident about what comes next. 

Behind these experiences were Career Catalyst Champions, managers, mentors, and employee volunteers who helped create moments where interns felt welcomed, supported, and connected. Their efforts helped interns build confidence, strengthen relationships, and see how their work contributes to Cadence’s broader impact. 

As another internship season comes to a close, we’re proud of what our interns accomplished and grateful to the employees who helped make those opportunities possible.
