When One Door Closes...Opening New Doors with Cadence Retool-to-Work

I love the second half of this famous quote by Alexander Graham Bell “When one door closes another door opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.”

With the Cadence Retool-to-Work program, there are many new doors that could be opening for displaced engineers. The Retool-to-Work Program is a community outreach program offered to qualified candidates who need to update their design skills. Candidates might be displaced engineers seeking re-employment, or engineers, like stay-at-home caregivers, seeking to brush-up on their skills when reentering the workforce.

Once in the program, these engineers can take online training, test their knowledge through exams, and earn a Digital Badge to show their qualifications. The Retool-to-Work Community Outreach training program has carried the Cadence spirit of generosity and service for over 20 years. In 2020 Cadence added the opportunity for those in the program to earn a Digital Badge to help set apart these qualified candidates in their job search.

The inspiration to offer this retooling program came many moons ago but today more than ever there is a huge need for programs like this. We offer this opportunity to prepare the displaced engineer with new skills to up their game when looking for find that next big career opportunity—that next open door.

I spoke to program participant Swina Narula who is searching for a new work opportunity. “Being able to learn about Cadence Technology through the Retool to Work Program, I am very hopeful I will be able to find the right opportunity. I have completed two courses so far and earned two digital badges on SystemVerilog for Design and Verification and Verilog Language and Application and I am working on completing 2 more classes to get additional certification badges. This is giving me hope that more employers will notice my engineering background, work experience, and now Cadence tool knowledge.”
