DataPULSE: Configuring EDM Server and Test Server Modes in Allegro Pulse

31 May 2023 • 2 minute read

In releases 17.4-2019, HotFix 036 and 22.1, HotFix 003, changes were made to the minimum resource requirements and operating system (OS) recommendations for more stable Allegro® Pulse server (Vista) operations. The minimum resource requirements to run Allegro Pulse in the EDM server and test server modes were also relaxed compared to the more stringent Allegro Pulse server requirements.

If your machine doesn’t meet the minimum resource and OS requirements for the Allegro Pulse (Vista) server, the server starts in the ERROR state. As an Allegro Pulse server administrator, you will have questions about how to configure it as a test server or how to run it in the EDM-only mode, or whether you should still configure Allegro Pulse as a service. The following flowchart illustrates the context:

Note: It’s recommended that you configure Pulse as a service. If you choose otherwise, refer to the product documentation for instructions on how to start Pulse.

When Pulse starts in the ERROR state, do the following to configure the available server modes in Pulse:

1. Open the Pulse web page:

  • If you installed Pulse as a service and did not reboot, access the Pulse page by typing http://<Pulse access URL>:7100/element in a web browser.
  • If you started Pulse by navigating to <Cadence installation directory>/server/bin, the Pulse web page opens automatically.

2. Specify the administration credentials to log in to Pulse.

3. Click the Settings icon.

4. Select the required Server Mode option.

The EDM Server Mode option is required for Design Entry HDL users who do not use Allegro Pulse for design data management. You can select either EDM Server Mode or Test Server Mode or both options to set up an EDM-only test server.

Note: Releases 17.4-2019, HotFix 036 and 22.1, HotFix 003 onwards, the vista -test true command-line argument is no longer supported.

5. Click Save.

6. Restart the Pulse server.

The server starts and transitions to the RUNNING state.
