CMP-70What do we mean by free signal integrity? Be sure to attend our joint Wild River Technology/Cadence DesignCon 2025 technical session, where we will unveil how understanding anisotropic materials and tolerances in the design of PCBs can increase performance at 112/224Gpbs and beyond. The talk will take place on Wednesday, January 29, 11:15am – 12:00pm in Ballroom B.

Uncertainty in as-fabricated (AF) dimensions and material properties makes signing off on as-designed (AD) PCB properties a risky affair. Automatic material identification of bulk-isotropic properties using an AI-enabled optimizer is feasible and gives a good correlation; however, anisotropic material identification requires further work for separation with manufacturing tolerances.

Presenters Eric Bogatin of the University of Colorado, Al Neves of Wild River Technology, John Phillips, Frank Zavosh, and Kristoffer Skytte of Cadence will talk about the difference between AD and AF electronic designs and examine how much insertion loss margin is left on the table and what is the influence of anisotropy. The automatic identification of material using AI and isotropic versus anisotropic materials will be discussed, as well as bandwidth limits. Finally, an examination of the variation of electrical performance with design tolerances and suggestions for improving digital twins, or digital representations of real-world hardware, will be provided.
