BoardSurfers: How to Install Allegro ECAD-MCAD Library Creator Server?

2 Dec 2020 • 3 minute read

We know Cadence® Allegro® ECAD-MCAD Library Creator reduces package creation time by 60-80% by helping us quickly create standard-compliant libraries. But, there is an equally strong reason why you choose Allegro® ECAD-MCAD Library Creator, the Library Creator repository, which provides thousands of ready-to-use packages and templates. The repository allows centralized configuration-controlled storage and management of package models.

To access this repository, you must be logged in to the Library Creator repository account. All the information related to repository accounts is stored on Allegro ECAD-MCAD Library Creator Server which also manages and maintains the Library Creator application data including templates, ECAD and MCAD synchronization details, and package models. You can log in to a Cadence hosted server or also install a local Library Creator Server.

In this blog post, we will discuss how you can install and configure a local Library Creator repository server.

Before Installing Library Creator Server

Before you start installing Cadence Allegro ECAD-MCAD Library Creator Server, there are a few things you need to have and do. You need an installation environment that includes a minimum of two CPU cores, 4 GB of RAM, and 10 GB of storage space.  You must also install MariaDB before starting with Library Creator Server installation.

Download and Install MariaDB Setup

To store and manage data, Library Creator Server uses the MariaDB database which is a free and open-source variation of MySQL database.

MariaDB can be easily downloaded using Cadence Download Manager. Just click the Library Creator Options in Download Manager and then check Library Creator Database (MariaDB) and click Get to download MariaDB. The setup file is downloaded, and the location of the file is displayed at the bottom of the Download Manager window.

Move the MariaDB setup file to the system on which Library Creator Server will be installed. Double-click the setup file and follow the instructions in the setup wizard to install MariaDB.

Download and Install Library Creator Server

No, you don't need to go to the Cadence Downloads page to download the setup. Cadence provides the option to download the Library Creator Server setup from Cadence Download Manager itself. Like MariaDB, just select Library Creator Server and click Get.

Locate the Library Creator Server setup file and double-click to start the installation. Follow the instructions in the installation wizard to complete the server installation.

Configure Library Creator Server

After installing the server,  the Allegro Library Creator Server configuration automatically starts. In case you need to re-configure the server, use the Cadence Library Creator Server – Configure option in the Start menu. The Allegro ECAD-MCAD Library Creator Server Setup dialog appears.

  1. In the Database tab, provide a password for the database root user and test the connection.

  2. Set the network port that the Library Creator Server will use to listen to the HTTP connections in the HTTP tab.

  3. Enter the site admin email address and set the password using the Set Site Admin Password button in the Site Admin tab.

  4. You can also configure the mail options in the Mail (Optional) tab to set the automated password reset support for users.

  5. Review the details in the Finish tab and click the Finish button to start the Allegro Library Creator Server configuration.

Conclusion

The Allegro ECAD-MCAD Library Creator Server Setup will start the configuration process and display a completion message with a URL that can be used to access the repository. Clicking OK on the completion message will open the Library Creator Server web interface where you can log in and create new users.
