Knowledge Bytes - Interposer Multi-Block Analysis Using Clarity 3D Layout

8 Nov 2023 • 3 minute read

The System Analysis Knowledge Bytes blog series explores the capabilities and potential of the System Analysis tools offered by Cadence. In addition to providing insight into the useful features and enhancements in this area, this series aims to broadcast the views of different bloggers and experts, who share their knowledge and experience on all things related to System Analysis.

Designing and testing interposer design comes with a unique set of challenges. The large size and density of these designs make it very difficult to analyze the entire design using FEM solvers.

With the new Interposer Multi-Block Analysis flow, you will find it quite easy to import GDS files of any size and complexity into Clarity 3D Layout. When working with large and complex GDS files, this flow allows you to create SPD files of practicable size and create a setup to run large parallel computations in just a few clicks.

With Clarity, using GDS supporting files to perform GDS to SPD translation is uncomplicated. With the Interposer multiblock analysis flow, you can reuse these files to make the translation process effortless, repeatable, and reliable. You can then edit the layout if needed, using scripts.

The port creation step is also automated so that you are ready to set up computer resources and view all simulation results, in a truly short setup time. The following figure illustrates the Interposer Multi-Block Analysis workflow:

This Rapid Adoption Kit (RAK) demonstrates how to translate a GDSII stream format (GDSII) file and partition it into simulation blocks for Clarity 3D Layout. The SPD file can be imported into Clarity 3D Layout for simultaneous and synchronized full-wave extraction of each of the user-defined simulation blocks.
