Managing Components in OrCAD X Capture Using Component Explorer

22 Nov 2024 • 2 minute read

In OrCAD X Capture, the Component Explorer interface provides a user-friendly way to add parts to your designs. With this intuitive feature, you can effortlessly explore an extensive selection of components from Cadence-supplied libraries or directly download parts from content partners, such as SamacSys, SnapMagic, and Ultra Librarian. By streamlining access to this comprehensive library, OrCAD X Capture enhances design efficiency, saving valuable time and effort when creating new parts and PCB footprints.

Placing Components

To place a component on the schematic, open the Component Explorer window using one of the following ways:

  • Click the Place Component toolbar icon.
  • Choose the Place – Component menu command.
  • Press the shortcut key, M.

The Component Explorer window facilitates the following part management tasks:

  • View the libraries provided by Cadence.
Use your login credentials to sign in and access the SamacSys part libraries. A separate username and account password are needed for access to the Ultra Librarian and SnapMagic part libraries.
  • Use the free-text search field to search and download parts directly from Cadence content partners.
  • Explore thousands of parts, symbols, datasheets, footprints, and 3D images.

Customizing Component Symbol

To make the required changes to the placed schematic symbol, select the symbol, right-click, and choose Edit Part.

You can edit a part to customize the pin position and graphics to suit your requirements.

Saving Symbols to a Local Library

To save schematic symbols to a local symbol library for further modification, you can copy the parts to the library from Design Cache as illustrated in the following animation:
