What's Good About Allegro PCB Editor Groups? Look to SPB16.3 and See!

14 Apr 2010 • 1 minute read
With the Allegro PCB Editor SPB16.3 release, you can now allow groups to have elements added or removed.

The construction and disbandment of groups is now supported in both the General and Placement application modes. Groups are easily created in the working canvas by first pre-selecting multiple elements followed by the selection of the "Add to Group" command located in the context sensitive right mouse button "Add to Group" menu item.

Groups can also be disbanded (removed) using the context sensitive right mouse button menu "Disband Group" menu item.

For more details, read below...

To add or disband groups, use the following flow:

1. When in Placement edit or General edit application modes, select the elements you want to add to the group and then using the right mouse button select "Add to Group".

2. Enter a name for the group in the popup form and select "OK".

3. To add elements to the group or overwrite the existing group, select the new elements and use the right mouse button "Add to Group".

4. The "Add to Group" GUI appears - select the group name. If you select "Overwrite existing group", the previous elements will be removed from the group and the newly selected elements will be placed in the group. If you do not select "Overwrite existing group", the newly selected elements will be added to the previously selected elements.

5. Moving the group can now be accomplished by a single mouse click if the super filter setting is set to "Group".

6. To disband the group, hover over the group and select with the right mouse button "Disband group".
