Troubleshooting installation of free student version (using activation ID)

Until September 2022 the free student license was provided through an activation ID.

As of September 2022 a license text file is provided and hence this discussion is no longer relevant.

This activation ID can be entered at first launch after installation or in the Admin Tool.

It can be used only once. When making changes to the computer configuration (including changes in the OS) may damage the activation => de-activate in the Product (de-)activation tab (in the Admin Tool).

If the software does not start, check the following:

  • The OS is supported (see the system requirements in the documentation)?
  • In the Trusted storage tab in the License management section of the Admin Tool a line should be visible confirming the successful activation of the free student version.
    • yes: go to the next check
    • no: go to the Product (de-)activation tab and try to run the activation with the ID received by email. ATTENTION: the activation ID can be used only on one
  • The License server tab in the same section should indicate that the server is up.
    • yes: the software should start. If that's still not the case go to the Diagnostics section and check what else could be wrong.
    • no: If it is not running select "activate from license file(s)" and use the generic license file "c:\Program Files (x86)\License_management\any.lic". If you have limited permission on your machine, It is possible that you need to redo this step after a reboot.

If all this does not help, please make a new forum post with the description of what happens in your case in the above checks.

Mention also:

  • the OS version,
  • the software version,
  • The startup log when launching the software through command line:
    • Linux: omnis5.2 -print > startup_log.txt
    • Windows:  cd "c:\Program Files (x86)\NUMECA Software\Omnis 5.2"    and then:  omnis.bat -print > startup_log.txt
      Then share startup_log.txt

Screen captures may also help to illustrate the situation and get a fast response. Make sure not to show confidential information in the screen captures though.

Colinda, hello! I met a student at a party from https://college-dorm-party.com/ who had a similar problem. I'll try to find him in my friends and put him in touch with you, maybe he knows the solution. Sometimes dating at college dorm parties can be helpful too :)

    Hi Amie,
As of September 30 2022 the student licenses are not provided through an activation ID so my initial post has become irrelevant. I will remove it soon and replace it by instructions for the license installation with a license file.
