Reduce computing

Hi

I am currently working on a projekt, and i am very new to CFD.

I need to test a hydrofoil-catamaran and see how it acts on water.

For this setup i followed tutorial 5 for planning (assuming this is fitting for my problem)

However i run into a solving problem, since this is all done on my home pc.

It seems i do not meet the required CPU power for the planning tutorial unfortunately, which results in a very long computing time.

Is there any way i can reduce Solving time for this simulation?

If in any way possible, i would love to do a self-propulsion test on the catamaran, although it would require even more.

pc specifications:

Intel i5-10600K 6 cores, 4.5GHz

16gb ram

3060Ti GPU

    The estimated engineering and computing times for Tutorial 5, as outlined in the tutorial, are as follows:

    Engineering time (user interaction required):

    l C-Wizard automatic setup: 5 minutes.

    l Post-processing: 30 minutes.

    Computing time (no user interaction required): 8h50 to finish on 24 cores, but the convergence within 1% was reached after 5h.

     

    While the minimum system requirement is 4GB of RAM (Min 3GB), 7GB of Disk space, 64-bit machine with 24 cores.

     

    Based on my check, with 48 cores, the approximate computation time is 3 hours, while with 18 cores, the approximate time to converge the solution is 17 hours for a medium-size mesh.

     

    You can experiment with a coarse mesh but bear in mind that it may impact the accuracy of the results.

     

    If you are affiliated with a university or research laboratory, you can check if there’s access to another high -end machine for running the simulation, typically needing at least 24 cores for smooth operation. (In this scenario, you will require a new license file that is associated with the hostname of the new machine).

     

    Cadence offers an OnCloud facility with two options (a) CFD Simulation Marine and, (b) CFD Simulation Marine HPC.

     In the first option (CFD Simulation Marine), users can utilize a maximum of 32 cores, whereas in the second option (CFD Simulation Marine HPC), the users can access up to 756 cores. Both options are paid services, and to inquire about pricing contacting the sales team is necessary.

    Suppose in any case if you are working on any funded project, then this option suits well to you.
