Mesh Generation

I've been following along the first module of the online CFD Course step by step and everything is working as intended except for the mesh generation. Whenever I try to start the generation, it starts with the prompt "starting resources -2%" followed by an internal error message. Said error message tells me to look in the vlog, which contains the following error messages:

Got error code from popen call: 1
warning: qstat is missing.

popen where qstat 2>&1 INFORMATION: Es konnten keine Dateien mit dem angegebenen
Muster gefunden werden.

Got error code from popen call: 1
warning: qstat is missing.

popen where squeue 2>&1 INFORMATION: Es konnten keine Dateien mit dem angegebenen
Muster gefunden werden.

Got error code from popen call: 1
warning: squeue is missing.

The .log file that is generated at the same time, states that the "License file format is too old, Please check that it contains the ISSUER field." on multiple occasions.

    Hi NmiT,

please select the mesh setup and have a look to the tab "control". Check that the box "on cluster" is NOT selected. If you run a parallel mesh generation, make sure that the button is put for a machine. See the screen shot below:

If that still does not work, please try to run the mesh generation in serial by deselecting "parallel".

    Does that help?

    Best regards
    Manuel

    Hi Manuel,

I made sure that "On cluster" is deselected, but unfortunately neither the parallel nor the single-core mesh generation worked for me.

    Hi NmiT,

then it becomes a bit more difficult as we are on the instalation/license/configuration level, which is more time consuming. I assume you are using WIndows 10? May I ask you to make a quick restart (not shutdown and start - the restart option of Windows). This would solve any issues, where a process in the background got stuck.

If that does not help, I would need the full vlog and log files. To obtain this:

    • Go to you Omnis project folder
    • Open the folder Document_1
    • Identify the correct folder, by identifying the correct UID. There is a file, which has a name like "Computation_UId_100000000041957-Name-Mesh Setup 1". The name "Mesh Setup 1" is coming from the Omnis Interface. Once you finde the correct file you know, which UID is the correct one (in this case "Computation_UId_100000000041957").
    • Open the related folder and open the "default run" folder
    • Here you should find log and vlog files.

As you cannot attach them in the forum, please send them to our academic mail-address at numeca.de. I cannot write the mail address here, as my post otherwise is filtered out.

    Best regards
    Manuel

After some iteration via mail and analization of the logs we identified the following warning in the vlog file as error source:

WARNING NIFileLock::lockFile CreateHardLink failes with code 1

This message is indicating that something with reading/writing access is not working properly. NmiT then tried to run this project on another drive (e.g. instead of saving under d:\... doing so under c:\...). Working under another drive solved the problem. It did not work when using an external drive being connected via USB.
