Discontinuity in mesh on the blade tip when tip gap is introduced

Hello,

I am trying to generate a mesh of a single blade passage axial fan using .geomTurbo file. The mesh is being generated without any errors but when I look at the tip of the blade, it is not good. The mesh emerging from the pressure side doesn't match well with the mesh from the suction side and it is creating a big discontinuity in the mesh. I have attach the same with this post, please let me know if I can do something about it.

Cheers.

Hi, if the blade is very staggered, there will be a different number of cells between the suction and pressure side, in order to keep the mesh quality high.

You can change the mesh topology and try to set the same number of cells on the two sides, of course there is a trade-off to deal with.

If you use Fine Turbo, this mesh connection is easily digested by the solver, and it's a common practice to keep the mesh disconnected on the tip.

    Hello Domen,

Thanks for the reply. I am not using Fine Turbo solver, so I have to fix it before I move ahead.

By changing mesh topology, you mean changing the number of points on suction and pressure side in my .geomTurbo file or is there a way to adjust the number of layer on suction and pressure side in the software?

    Thanks.

Yes, in Autogrid you can use the B2B mesh topology control to see the number of points on the ss/ps. There are a few options to try: disable the "high staggered", disable "number of points in the throat" are the ones that stand out.
