Problem importing a geometry

Dear all,

I'm having trouble importing a blade geometry by using a .igs format file.

FIRST TRY:  Import mode - import geometry and keep the original geometry definition, I'm obtaining the following warnings:

-There are 1 untessellated surfaces out of 1 surfaces

-The imported geometry es empty. This is probably a failure during import

-The imported geometry lies outside [-500m;+500m]. Please consider scaling the geometry

And the import fails.

SECOND TRY: Import mode - Import geometry and tessellate:

- With this method I can import the geometry but when I try to assign the blade surface to the Main blade I obtain the following error:

--Selected entities CAD format is not supported in AutoGrid5

- The measure tool shows that the geometry does not lies outside [-500m;+500m] as reported on the first try.

THIRD TRY: I converted the .igs file in other formats (.step, .stl, .cgr, .3dxml) by using a CAD.

- I can import the geometry without warnings using any of these formats, but I always obtain the error of the second try (Selected entities CAD format is not supported in AutoGrid5) when I set the blade surface to the Main blade.

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

Thank you

    Hi,

Which software are you using? Fidelity or Fine/Turbo. Please specify the version.

    Hi,

Fidelity 2023.1 supports various geometry formats.

On the GUI of Fidelity 2023.1, click on the help symbol (see screenshot attached below). On the content page, select Fidelity Geometry > Import Model in the CAD tree> Import geometry.

All the relevant information is available on that page. I hope this will help you.

    Hello,

I have checked the page, and I have done turbo meshing before. This time I have problems in linking the main blade surface to the CAD geometry. I have expanded the CAD tree and selected the surface directly (like I used to do with other geometries). This time the error pops up (see attached) no matter what type of input format file I select.

Is there any particular suggestion that you could provide for this case? Any checks of the input file for that matter? Let me know, thank you.

    Hi Michele,

Let's try to figure out what's happening!

IGS files often have a few issues; it's an old format that sometimes struggles to store the CAD features properly. If you can move to a *.step format, you will benefit from a more stable and complete open format.

The other limitations you found are related to the size of the CAD: units are generally not included in the file, and the kernel we use to import CAD files doesn't accept geometries larger than 1000 "units".

For example, if you have a geometry larger than 1000mm, it's better to scale it to meters and import it again.

The last warning you got is related to the type of file: Autogrid can't import an STL file.

Let me know how it goes!
