How to edit the DXF file for unit issues

You might be facing issues during DXF imports like wrong size, no scaling feature, improper dimensions while importing, and so on. This article will help AWR users to fix units in the DXF file using a text editor (Notepad) and learn more about the DXF file.

How do I get the import dialog box to come up with unit dialog while importing?

Do the following steps:

  1. Open the .dxf file in a Notepad and search for INSUNITS. The format is shown below in the snippet.

  1. The red highlighted numeric 4 represents the specific unit (maybe mm, inch, mil, etc.). Hence, it fails to get the desired import.

$INSUNITS

 70

     4

  9

  1. Delete the content (in the red box) from the Notepad and save it.

  1. Now, import this in AWR. The unit dialog box will appear. You can proceed with the desired unit specifications.

Note: This problem arises only for version 15 and below; it is fixed in version 16.

Steps to import the DXF file (it will also help in other format imports):

  1. Go to Layout Section > Cell Libraries. Do a right-click and select Import DXF File.

  1. Browse for the DXF file on your PC.
