Assigning hotkeys using keyboard command shortcuts in AWR

The use of keyboard command shortcuts (or hotkeys) can greatly increase efficiency within the AWR Design Environment platform. Default menu command shortcuts are available for many common actions such as simulation, optimization, and navigating between the Project Browser, Elements Browser and Layout Manager. To do so, go to default shortcuts display on menus or by choosing Tools > Hotkeys to display the Customize dialog box where you can also create custom hotkeys.

Let’s assign a circuit element Lumped Resistor with a name R:

  • Under Categories: Choose CircuitElements from the available options.
  • Under Commands: Choose AddLumpedElementResistorRES from the available options.
  • Under Press the new hotkeys: Provide a name. As shown in the figure, R is assigned.
  • Click Assign and press OK.

The hotkey is assigned for a resistor, so the next time a resistor is required, it will be called by just pressing R on the keyboard.

Similarly, there are other categories, commands that can be assigned as shortcut hotkeys in the AWR design environment.
