changing action of strokes

MOSFET
MOSFET over 16 years ago

I recently figured out how to enable strokes in Virtuoso, and was wondering if there is a Skill function that will descend into a block that a given set of coordinates is contained within?  I searched the Skill help manual for "descend", but couldn't find any functions that do what I am describing.  How can I descend into a block using a downward mouse stroke whose endpoint is inside the block?

Also, is it possible to define new strokes?

     Hi,

There is a new executable "stroke_editor" in the IC612 release under the tools/bin directory. This is even implemented for the Linux platform.  It looks a little different to the original "sted" but it should read and write the same format def.strokes type of file.

Also, I tend to work with "infix" turned on, in this case, if you perform a stroke (e.g. draw a C for Copy) over the instance/item in question, the command should take the current stroke/cursor location as input for the command.

Anyway, good luck with "stroke_editor" - it should solve your problems!

     Regards,

    Lawrence.

Are you able to access the help files from within the stroke_editor?  If I click on Help->Stroke Editor Help, nothing happens and I receive the following error message in my console:

Are you using AMD x86_64 platform?  If yes, it could be a Java limitation.  The JRE for AMD x86_64 doesn't include the (Mozilla) web browser plug-in thingy.

I ran into a similar problem with the DEFT Eclipse plug-in for techfile editing.  When you try to access the 'Cadence Documentation' tab at the bottom you get an 'Embedded browser not available' message.

...Someone from Cadence will have to confirm though.

    Andrew.

Yes, this is running on the AMD x86_64 platform.  Is there nothing that can be done to fix the Java errors?

As luck would have it, Sun released a beta version a few days ago!

Just spotted it mentioned on Slashdot yesterday.  Haven't had a chance to try it for myself yet.

Unfortunately installing the new version didn't make a difference.  Thanks for the tip though.

Yeah, it'll be a little trickier than just installing the JRE into the OS.  The Cadence tools ship with their own built-in JRE install (e.g. $CDSHOME/tools/jre) so you'll have to override/enhance that somehow.

I have vague recollections of some 'CDS_' variant of environment variable for redirecting to an alternate JRE...

    Looks like that was wavescan-specific:

    setenv CDS_WAVESCAN_JRE_DIR <alternative jre directory>

Ted or Lawrence may have some suggestions, short of 'fixing' the tool install directly.

    Andrew.
