newbie's question: how to delete an object using SKILL

Hi,

 I'm new to SKILL programming and I want to write a program that delete certain layer from certain library. For example, i want to delete all the metal1 object in all the cell in "a" library. Can someone please help me? below is part of my program:

procedure( delLayer( libName )
    count = 0
    lib = ddGetObj( libName)

        foreach( cell lib~>cells
        if( setof( the_view cell~>views the_view~>name == "layout") then

            cv = dbOpenCellViewByType( libName cell~>name "layout")

foreach(layer cv~>shapes~>layerName
                if( layer == "MET1" then
                   **** need help in this area ***

I've tried dbDeleteObject() but i just can't seems to get it right

                    count++ );if
                    );foreach layer

                    dbClose( cv)
        );foreach cell
        );if setof
);procedure

    Hi,

    There are more simple way to grab all the shapes with layer rather than using cv~>shapes. A better propose is using setof(x cv~>lpps x~>layerName == "METAL1"). This will save time and less steps needed instead of running on all shapes in the cell view.

    I did some modication on your code. Please try it.

    procedure( delLayer( libName )
        count = 0
        lib = ddGetObj( libName)

            foreach( cell lib~>cells
                if( setof( the_view cell~>views the_view~>name == "layout") then

                cv = dbOpenCellViewByType( libName cell~>name "layout")

                foreach( shape car(setof(x cv~>lpps x~>layerName == "MET1"))~>shapes

                   dbDeleteObject(shape)

                    count++

                )

                ;;foreach(layer cv~>shapes~>layerName
                ;;    if( layer == "MET1" then
                ;;      **** need help in this area ***

                ;;I've tried dbDeleteObject() but i just can't seems to get it right
                ;;
                ;;        count++ );if
                ;;        );foreach layer

                        dbClose( cv)
            );foreach cell
            );if setof
    );procedure

    BTW, there is a lot of space to improve in your script such as in checking for layout view. You can check whether the cell view is layout or not by checking its cell view type (eg: cv~>cellViewType == "maskLayout")

    Cheers.

     Nice suggestion, using lpps will generally be more efficient since there are typically many more shapes in a cellview than there will be layer-purpose pairs, so this method could be one or two orders of magnitude fewer items to iterate over.

    The code could be improved even further by adding local variables:

    procedure( delLayer( libName )
      let( ((count 0) lib cv)
        ;; count = 0 ;; no longer needed, initialised in let statement
        lib = ddGetObj( libName)

            foreach( cell lib~>cells

                when( setof( the_view cell~>views the_view~>name == "layout")

                cv = dbOpenCellViewByType( libName cell~>name "layout")

                foreach( shape car(setof(x cv~>lpps x~>layerName == "MET1"))~>shapes

                   dbDeleteObject(shape)

                    count++

                ); foreach shape

                dbClose( cv )

            );when setof

          );foreach cell

        count ;; return the number removed

      ); let

    );procedure

    Also I swapped the closing parentheses comments for the if (changed to when in my example) and foreach statements as they were in the wrong order. Hope this helps!

    Regards,

    Lawrence.
