Document or Info regarding integrating a custom DM system through GDM

I would like to implement a custom DM interface through Cadence's GDM.

From the limited document, I figure out that GDM requires a shared object library to be built and cadence will use that library.  Where can I find more info regarding how to build this shared object library?

How to do a GDM integration is not documented for general public consumption, because it is something that is rarely done and not a trivial task (I know of less than a handful of cases done by people other than Cadence Connections Partners). So it's normally done as a service - providing the integrator's guide, an example integration, and some consultancy.

For more details you should contact your account manager or talk to Cadence Customer Support to investigate further.

There are four connections partners that provide such tools, so most customers end up using one of these (listed in alphabetical order):

    • ClioSoft Inc
    • Dassault Systemes Enovia Corp (previously known as MatrixOne and Synchronicity)
    • IC Manage, Inc
    • MethodICs LLC

These integrate various different underlying version control/configuration management tools (some proprietary, some "open", some supplied by other companies).

For most people, the cost of developing and maintaining such an interface when there are dedicate companies to do this is not worthwhile.

    Best Regards,

    Andrew.

Do you know if it's possible or straightforward to migrate between these? We're currently on ClioSoft SOS because cost and other circumstances when it was decided DM was needed. We use SVN for the digital side, and it would be nice to migrate the analog side to something like MethodIC's VersIC with an SVN back end. My team members tell me we're locked in and can't switch. Is this true?

I doubt if you're locked in, but I'm sure it involves a bit of work if you want to preserve version histories and also existing configuration information.

The best people to ask would be the DM provider you're interested in - MethodICs in this case. I'm sure they'd be happy to discuss this.

    Best Regards,

    Andrew

You're definitely not locked in. Most folks choose to migrate only the important tags by exporting a workspace per tag and checking those into Subversion with a script. I've heard of some companies porting terabytes of Design Sync data into SVN this way.
