Local coords vs. Global coords

If I'm descended into a cell that does not share the same 0,0 with the top cell in the hierarchy

and get entry coordinates from, say, enterPoint, then use that coordinate to place an instance,

the instance gets placed not where I intended because the local coordinate system is not the same as

the global coordinate system. Orientation makes it even worse.

It seems like a lot of work to have to calculate the offset and orientation of the descended cell.

Is there a better way?

    Hi Michael,

     Yes there is, use the geWindowToEditPoint() SKILL function :

    geWindowToEditPoint(hiGetCurrentWindow() pt)
    => translated point

     Solution 1839100 covers this.  There is a reverse function, geEditToWindowPoint() also.  There are also other related SKILL functions such as geTransformUserPoint(), but I think in this case you would prefer the geWindowToEditPoint function.

    Hopefully this answers your question?

    Regards,

    Lawrence.

    Well done.

    I've been looking for this solution for a long time.

    It's amazing how many ways you can reword a search and still not get what you need.

    geEditToWindow is not what I would have ever thought.

    Thanks

    Michael
