X connection to <server_name>:500.1 host broken (explicit kill or server shutdown)

Hello,

I am running multiple Cadence simulations at once using ocean scripts. I start them from my UNIX terminal. The problem is that some of these simulations just stop showing the following message. The funny thing is it stops only when the simulation is almost done.

X connection to server_name:500.1 host broken (explicit kill or server shutdown)

I'm not sure if this is an ocean problem or our server setup problem, but I was curious if anyone else sees this problem when running ocean scripts from the terminal. I use the command "ocean -nograph -restore ocean_script.ocn" to run the simulations.

Any help is much appreciated.

     Hi Wonyoung,

When you run a "-nograph" session (for icfb, virtuoso or ocean, for example) the graphics are sent to a dummy X server that is effectively a VNC server that is started by the tool. The same X server can handle multiple connections to it, but there is a limit, then a new X server should be started by the tool if the existing server(s) has/have no capacity - this is my understanding. How many ocean sessions (with -nograph) are you running at once, and what is the subversion of the software (this is important, I recommend always stating this, I would hope that all community forum posters would take note of this) ?

    regards,
    Lawrence.

    Hi Lawrence,

Apologies for not stating the software version. I'm using IC 5.1.4. I'm running 10 simulations at once, and I get the "X connection ... " message in about half of those simulations.

    Thanks,
    Wonyoung
