mapping symbol list to a value list

I want to map a symbol list into a value list. It looks simple base on sklangref.pdf but it doesnt work as expected.

********************************************

symbolList=list('cv 'bBox 'layer)

valueList=list(geGetEditCellView() list(0:0 10:10) list("M1" "drawing"))

mapcar(lambda((x y) set(x y)) symbolList valueList)

println(cv) ;; doesn't print the result of geGetEditCellView()

println(bBox) ;; it doesnt print list(0:0 10:10)

println(layer) ;; it doesn't print list("M1" "drawing")

    Really? That works fine for me (and it should work).  The only way I can think of it not working is if you're using SKILL++ (i.e. have a ".ils" suffix on your source file, or have done toplevel('ils) interactively in the CIW). If that's what you've done, then this would be necessary:

    mapcar(lambda((x y) set(x y theEnvironment())) symbolList valueList)

    If you are using IC615, then a better approach is to use destructuringBind(). As follows:

    destructuringBind((cv bBox layer) valueList
      println(cv)
      println(bBox)
      println(layer)
    )

    Note that the form creates variables local to the destructuringBind.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
