Mouse bindkey with button 8 and 9

I have a mouse with more than just 3 buttons and a scroll wheel. XEV shows the extra buttons as "button 8" and "button 9". I want to use them as bindkeys but does not work like buttons 1-5 do. Any ideas?

I don't think this is possible - I looked into it a while ago. There are some limitations in Qt and in X11 as to how applications can access these buttons, which limits our ability to support them

If you want this, you should contact Cadence Customer Support so that an enhancement request can be filed.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

Thanks for the answer.  I was able to use the extra buttons by reassigning the mouse buttons to function keys (F8, F9).  I used xbindkeys and xvkbd in conjunction to reassign the mouse buttons to keyboard strokes.  This works well but took some work to get those 2 programs working in RHEL 5

    Hello all,

I have similar problem, I try to set bindkeys to my mouse buttons 4th and 5th. The "capture mouse binding" form recognize when I click one these mouse buttons , but when I try to use them in the layout editor nothing happens. I mean by clicking them there is no any signal in the CIW for executing of some command just nothing. What could be this problem?

    Kind Regards,

                  Nikolay

     Nikolay,

The 4th and 5th buttons are (usually, at least) the mouse scroll wheel in each direction. That should work - if it doesn't, maybe  you should contact customer support.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew,
Has anything changed in this field in the recent years? I just have a faint hope, that no key mapping at the OS level is needed now. Support for a second wheel or buttons would be such a great feature for CAD tools.

Not as far as I know, but I haven't re-checked for a while. I suggest you contact customer support.
