how to run system("...") command on a user input file?

I want to create a simple skill script which pops up a form and asks the user for an input file.

The skill file will run a system command on this file. Such as system("grep -i subckt userinputfile")

The problem I am having is that the system command does not accept variables. I know how to write all of the user interface and forms, I am just stuck on how to run the system command on a user input file without forcing the user to name the input file something unique.

 Thank you!

    Hi Dave,

The answer is to use the sprintf command to create the command string to be executed by system, and this is how you can insert variables into the string. For example, you might do something like this:

    sprintf(cmd "grep -i subckt %s" userinputfile)
    system(cmd)

Also you can use commands like ipcBeginProcess to be able to capture the results and return values of externally run processes.

    Hopefully this answers your question.

    Regards,

    Lawrence.
