skill to detect IC5

My cdsinit has a few settings that can only work on IC6 so warnings are listed in the CIW.  Ive seen some code that will check the version in just a few lines but cant find any expamples.   Can you please point me to the article or provide some sample code.

 Thanks

    This is what I've used for the last 17 years:

    (procedure (abGetVersionNumber)
      (let ((parsed (parseString (getVersion))))
           /* in 4.4 onwards, version string is slightly different */
           (if (equal (caddr parsed) "version")
               (cadddr parsed)
               (caddr parsed)
               )))

    The other thing you might use (if it's database related) is dbGetDatabaseType() - that will tell you if you're running in a CDB (it returns "CDBA") or OpenAccess (it returns "OpenAccess") enabled version of the tool.

    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew - that does work but it returns alot of info, I only need to know if its IC5 or 6.  I did finally find 2 other solutions.   The if does not work and looks like its missing a  close ) but it does not go where I thought it should.

    if( rexMatchp("6.1" getVersion() then
       icVersion="61"
    else
       icVersion="51"
    ) ;if

    You can also make use of the database format. E.g.

    case( dbGetDatabaseType()
       ("CDBA" icVersion="51")
       ("OpenAccess" icVersion="61")
    ) ;case

    What do you mean it returns a lot of info? In IC5141, it returns "5.1.0" and in IC615 it returns "6.1.5" (6.1.4 returns "6.1.4"). That doesn't sound like a "lot of info". You could check if it's "5.1.0" and anything else could be assumed to be IC61 (assuming you're not running really old versions):

    inIC5141=(abGetVersionNumber()=="5.1.0")

    Then you have a flag to say whether you're in IC5141 and you can do:

    if(inIC5141 then
      ; do IC5141 related stuff
    else
      ; do IC61 related stuff
    )

    In the first example you've posted, the missing parenthesis is before the then:

    if( rexMatchp("6.1" getVersion()) then
      icVersion="61"
    else
      icVersion="51"
    )

    Fairly obvious if you look up rexMatchp in the documentation that it's a function accepting two arguments.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
