Renumbering instances in layout

Is it possible to renumber layout instances like you canwith schematic instances?  For example, in a ROM array in the schematic

editor I can use the function "renumber instances" and specify the pattern of the renumbering.  I have not been able to find the

equivalent for the layout editor.

There's no built-in function for doing this; you'd have to write one in SKILL.. Usually people don't care that much about instance names in layout (although in IC5141 layout XL requires them to match the schematic; that's not a requirement in IC61X), so why is this important to you?

    Regards,

    Andrew.

About 85% of our projects are still done in IC51 and each of these gets a small ROM array that has (for years now) been coded by a very clunky

script.  I have refined it quite a bit, but could really clean it up and make it efficient if I could drive the instance numbering as is done in the schematic.

    Thanks.

Understood. As I said though, you'll need to write something in SKILL to do this, as there's no built-in functionality. Then you have the ability to do the numbering of whichever components you want, in whatever sort order you want.

    Best Regards,

    Andrew.

Thanks for the quick reply.  I was hoping someone already had a solution, but it shouldn't take too much to build.

    Thanks Again.

Maybe one of the others in the forum has something that does this that they can share, so you may be lucky yet!

    Andrew.
