Fluid Guardring Questions

After many, many months I am finally on a project using IC6.1.5!  My first business was to try to figure out the answer to my question from a long time ago (Link is to post in this community)

 www.cadence.com/.../1267301.aspx

Now I have a new set of issues.... sigh.  I do not have any write permissions to the techfile and the techfile does not have any Guard Rings defined!  So, I'm back to square one with the exception that I can't seem to find enough answers in the documentation.   I'm sure there is there a way to set up my own Guard Ring outside of the tech file since I was able to find the fluidGuardRingInstallPath environment variable but I can not find any documentation on how to set everythign up in skill or with GUI?

Can anyone give me a direction to start, I have a very short amount of time before I have to start moving polygons around and won't be able to spend more time "playing" with the new tool.

Thanks in advance,

Dan

     Hi Dan,

I don't know about installing FGR (Fluid GuardRing) outside of the techlib, but one thing that you can try is to create your own library and reference the technology library (this is an "ITDB" set up, Incremental Technology DataBase), then you will have write access to your part of the technology "graph" without modifying or otherwise affecting the 'master' technology that you reference. In my simple test, here's what I did in order to be able to add a Fluid GuardRing while referencing the "gpdk" library that is shipped with the tools installation. I created a very simple technology file (say FGR.tf) and compiled this when I created my library:

    controls(
    refTechLibs( "gpdk" )
    ) ;controls

This way I can add to the technology without needing write access to the base technology.

Hopefully this can get you started?

    Regards,

    Lawrence.
