SKILL Simulation code

Ashish86

Hi Andrew,

I have defined a NMos PCell by writing the CDF parameters in SKILL. I now want to write the simulation code for the  same.

But I am not sure how to write the simulation code. can you give me some written code as an example?

Thanks.

What do you mean by "simulation code"?  Perhaps Andrew might understand, but this is a forum, answers could come from anyone, however, if we do not understand the question, it is unlikely we would be able to answer. Are you asking about the simInfo section of the CDF for the purposes of netlisting/simulation?

    Regards,

    Lawrence.

    Hi Lawrence,

    Thanks for the reply.

I have created a CDF for NMos PCell and now i want to make it functional for running spectre simulation using SKILL.

So how do i do that? and you are right when you said "  Are you asking about the simInfo section of the CDF for the purposes of netlisting/simulation?"

     Thanks

I'm glad you eventually asked this to the forum (after tweeting me and sending me a personal message via the community site; I was busy the last couple of days, and in general I can't respond to unsolicited direct contacts from people the world over - as I've said numerous times here, this is something we all do as volunteers, and us Cadence folk have our real jobs to do as well - urgent requests should go to customer support).

The best place to start would be to look at another device (e.g. one of the transistors in analogLib). The documentation will help too. Your question is not exactly very specific, so it's hard to know what your problem is.

    Regards,

    Andrew.

    Thanks for the reply.

ok..i will put forward my question again like this

" How to create Cadence cell from scratch, and create a functional CDF and callbacks for it, and make it functional for running spectre simulation without creating the schematic view?"

I have created CDF for this. Now i want to do the spectre simulation and that is where I am stuck. can you help me with that??

     Regards,

     Ashish

Why don't you want to create a schematic? Surely that's how it would be used - you create a schematic, place your device's symbol in there (it's not very clear what you're doing, because you're talking earlier about a pcell, but normally pcells are for layout (not always, but  usually)), hook up some stimulus from analogLib and then set up a simulation in the Analog Design Environment.

Your question is rather vague and open-ended, so it's hard to judge what you know and don't know, what documentation you've looked at, what you've tried, and what you're actual objective is.

Sorry that I've not been able to guess what you're really trying to do!

    Andrew.

I referred cadence user guide in cadence virtuoso tool.

    Ashish,

That example was probably just for a layout device, where nobody cared about the symbol or simulation setup - so the simInfo (simulation information) is effectively blank.

This is covered in the Component Description Format User Guide in cdnshelp/cdsdoc (depending on the version you're using). There's a chapter Modifying Simulation Information which describes this in some detail.

    Andrew.

    Hi Ashish,

In the SKILL code you posted the first part would create CDF parameters (w, l, width, length and fingers), and then the next part would create the Simulation Information section of the cell's CDF.  For the simulator you would typically see a list of terminals and other parameters to be netlisted (e.g. w, l), here's a brief example for the spectre section:

        cdfId->simInfo->spectre = '( nil
    propMapping nil
    namePrefix ""
    otherParameters (model)
instParameters (w l as ad ps pd m)
    termOrder (D G S B)
    termMapping (nil D \:d G \:g S \:s B \:b)
    )

This should give you some idea. I've just seen Andrew's post, going to the documentation is a very good idea, in addition to what he said earlier about inspecting a device in analogLib.

    Hope this helps!

    Lawrence.
