MPW planning for Mask Data Preparation

hi,

i am new to the forum and would like to say hello at first.

my aim is to write a tool for creating an MPW by placing boxes into a field on the screen. the field projects the maximum possible field on the glass, e.g. 25x25 mm^2 and each box projects the size of the corresponding gds topcell.

shortly said, this tool has to be similar to the 'Automated Cluster Builder' from K2 Mask Compose. is there any freeware tool available covering this functionality? does skill provide the possibility to generate such a drag&drop window to put boxes in there and give a single gds file as an output including all the cells, which have been placed as boxes? K2 Mask Compose would be too mighty for this relatively little problem.

 thanks in advance!

     - Have you tried any freeware GDS editing tool like e.g.
       KLayout http://www.klayout.de/

    - Another possibility would be to read in your GDS subcells
into DFII libraries. Then create a new library with a top cell
and place the appropriate subcells there.
Finally create a new GDS form your top cell.

Both solutions are not relay drag and drop but you have the
possibility to see the outline of the subcells.

    hi,

a gds editing tool does not solve my problem. i just want to have a gui where i can place boxes into a field. the field reflects the size of the reticle and each placed box reflects the size of the corresponding gds file.

isn't it possible to get the size of the gds topcell via a command line in a UNIX terminal?

     thanks
