Generating unique symbol

cessej

I'm using the gensym function to generate a non-repeating symbol; ex. gensym("mySymbol")

It works fine and it gives me a unique symbol as long as I didn't close my Virtuoso XL.

But when opening a new Virtuoso XL, it will reset the number suffixes to "mySymbol" back to 0, resulting

to a repeating symbol.

Is there any other way I can do it? My requirement is to generate a unique symbol with short characters. Long numbers defenitely not preferred.

Thanks in advance.

I don't see this. Are you talking about exiting virtuoso altogether and starting a completely new virtuoso session (i.e. the program has exited and you start a new one)? If so, then that's hardly surprising - it is supposed to be a unique symbol in that session, not unique amongst all possible sessions.

If it's happening in the same process, I can't see how - this is nothing to do with Virtuoso XL - so which subversion are you using (Help->About will tell you, or getVersion(t) in the CIW)?

    Regards,

    Andrew
