I have a requirement that i have selected some objects. I want to filter instances only from the selected set of objects.

    You can also filter for male instances like this:

    setof(obj geGetSelSet() heIsInstObject(obj))

    heIsInstObject is also a private function. It's part of the hierarchy editor functionality, so do not use it in your code as it may be changed or removed without notice.

    The method I gave earlier should work fine. If you want to distinguish those which are not pins, also check the purpose attribute, so do:

    setof(obj geGetSelSet() obj~>objType=="inst" && obj~>purpose=="cell")

    Regards,

    Andrew.
