How can I check metal(or layer) density in a box

Hi All,

Could you please let me know how to check metal density(or area) in a box using skill? Please share your thoughts. I am using ic616.

Thank you,

Chandaka

    Hi Chandaka

I think you can do it as follows:
    a. Use dbProduceOverlap to get all M1 shapes from all levels in the layout
    b. Use skillscript from COS article 11091704 to calculate the area of each shape obtained in step "a"
    c. Delete all shapes generated in step "a"
    d. Get bBox of cellview and calculate density using areaShapes/areaCellView

Alternatively, it might be good to use ipcBeginProcess to run a DRC tool to do the calculation and then parse through the generated DRC results and report it to CIW. This is a better and most probably faster method.

    Best regards
    Quek

I believe leLayerOr() would be more efficient than dbProduceOverlap() for calculating area....

    Hi tweeks

The problem is that leLayerOr only works at the top level. Hence it is not possible to capture metal shapes from all levels in the layout.

    D'oh!

OK, well here's an alternative that would actually work: copy the cv to a scratch cv, flatten all instances, merge all metal, and THEN calculate area. :)

Agree. It is a possible workaround. : )

For example, solution 11328674 . There is also the rteGeomOr() function, which does workover hierarchy, but requires VLS GXL licensing.

    Andrew.

Thanks Quek, Tweeks and Andrew for giving some valuable inputs. I completed it few days back by seeing RE: Area measurement in Virtuoso (by dmay) post in our community only. I used dbProduceOverlap to get all shapes as Quek suggested. I will try tweeks suggestion also.

I don't have acess to COS support. And while logging to COS support it is asking hostid. I can enter host-id (lmhostid) but I am a layout engineer. I am assuming administators and cad people will handle these type of sites. Can I use it?

     Thank you,

    Chandaka.

Speak to your CAD person or administrator - the hostid is the hostid of your license server. They should be able to tell you the hostid and consequently you can get a Cadence Online Support account. It is not restricted (in general) to CAD people or adminstrators.

    Regards,

    Andrew.
